FORESTVILLE MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE CRACK
GREENBELT, Maryland - United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein announces that today U.S. District Court Judge Peter J. Messitte sentenced Robert Luray Mayfield, Jr., age 25, of Forestville, Maryland to 128 months in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base, commonly referred to as crack.
According to the statement of facts presented at his guilty plea on March 17, 2005, during at least September 2003, Robert Mayfield conspired with Edward Geathers, age 26, of Clinton, Maryland, and others to distribute cocaine base. In addition to obtaining cocaine base for resale, Mayfield would also broker drug transactions for Geathers. On September 3, 2003, Mayfield agreed to sell 31 grams of cocaine base to a confidential source in Forestville, Maryland. Mayfield contacted Geathers, who brought the crack to Mayfield. Mayfield delivered the crack to the source. On September 15, 2003, the same confidential source contacted Mayfield and ordered another 31 grams of cocaine base. When the source arrived in the Forestville area, Mayfield entered his vehicle and instructed the source to drive to a location on Marlboro Pike in Forestville, where Geathers entered the vehicle and delivered the 31 grams of crack cocaine.
Geathers was sentenced on January 18, 2006 to 136 months in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine base.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Prince George’s County Police Department for their work, and commended Assistant United States Attorney Deborah A. Johnston, who prosecuted the case.
